Biggest opening college football games to look ahead to

August 1st, 2014

Clemson Florida St Football

It’s almost that time of year, the SEC Network, PAC-12 Network and Big10 Network are in full gear mode on DISH and plenty of fans are starting to look at the schedules to see what games are up and coming.

LSU vs. Wisconsin (Aug. 30, Reliant Stadium) The Tigers have eyes on returning to the national championship equation and Wisconsin is in desperate need of a signature regular season win over an elite non-conference opponent. If Gary Andersen and the Badgers want to be considered a national power, this type of showcase is as good an opportunity to prove it as they will ever have in Madison.

Oklahoma State vs. Florida State (Aug. 30, AT&T Stadium) One of the great first weekend matchups will feature the defending national champions playing deep in the heart of Texas. The Cowboys are a fringe top 25 team but have eyes on returning to the top of the Big 12. An early strong showing (even in defeat) against the Noles could go a long way in proving that Mike Gundy’s program reloads rather than rebuilds.

Clemson at Georgia (Aug. 30, Georgia Dome) Though some in the SEC think Georgia (or any other SEC team) has no business playing the Tigers (or any other ACC team), apparently the schools do. And if you watch college sports, you’ll want to be on top of this one. Clemson is coming off a 11-2 season and a Orange Bowl win over Ohio State. If Georgia can keep their legendary running game afloat after lat years O-line departures, thisshould be a good one.
